Helping your child to be a successful reader just got more fun! Thanks to a generous grant provided by the G. Whitney Snyder Charitable Foundation, Sewickley Public Library is set to launch 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten on September 1.
The goal is to begin reading together with your child from a very early age, reaching 1,000 books before they begin kindergarten.
We’ve done the math! If you read to your child an average of 4-5 times per week from the time they are born until the age of five, you can easily accomplish the goal. Already have a preschooler? That’s ok! You’ll just have to read a little faster, and we know from experience that preschoolers love a good story.
We’ve got some fun tools to get you started and some encouraging ways to celebrate milestones along the way. For details and to register for your starter kit that includes a free book, bookmarks, reading guides, stickers and a reading log visit www.sewickleylibrary.org/1000books.
